  • Nike Air Troupe Mid – black & black/brown/purple colorways
By on November 24th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

    here.

The Nike Air Troupe Mid is a new shoe. This shoe was inspired by hip hop dancing. The Nike Air Troupe Mid took 2 years of research and development to make. The inspiration to make this shoe came from the observations that hip hop dancers loved to wear Nike shoes, particularly, the Nike Dunk. The Nike designers invented a shoe with a style similar to the Dunk but made it more flexible. The forefoot had flex grooves for multidirectional forefoot flexibility. There is a flex notch in the forefoot upper. There is a Phylon outsole with rubber on the perimeter to help dancers do the slip and slide steps. This helps to do the stop after the dancer does the slide motion.

The toe area is lined to protect the dancer’s feet from friction. The toe box is reinforced and padded to cushion the foot for motion in all directions. One common problem for the dancer is the foot slipping in the shoe. Nike has included the internal gore strapping to help hold the foot securely in place. Nike has tried hard to include the functions into the design and make this a great shoe for hip hop dancers. The first pack of the Nike Air Troupe Mid comes in these two colorways.

Look for the shoes at Nike retailers.

  • Don’t Do It Nike Dunk Lows
By on November 24th, 2008 | No Comments Comments

A designer with the nickname mark12titans posted the Don’t Do It Nike Dunks recently on the NikeTalk thread linked here. While the early comments on these shoes were negative, I think the designer’s work is noteworthy for its boldness. He has shown the brashness needed to be a successful sneaker artist.

My admiration for this boldness only goes as far as the quality of the customization allows. His clever contortion of the white Nike swoosh into a Puma symbol is quickly overshadowed by the dullness of the rest of the shoe’s exterior. In the picture just below this post, you will see the custom insole with the phrase “Don’t Do It” in white letters.

The uneven nature of the Don’t Do It Dunks shows that mark12titans has some work to do in future projects. While the insoles are a stroke of genius, I think that the exterior needed a little more work to match the designer’s bold moves. I am not a huge fan of these customs but I think the designer has the potential to do some great work in the future.
